Co-productions like Sisimpur in Bangladesh, and Galli Galli Sim Sim in India, in addition to social impact initiatives, bring joyful early learning to millions of children in this diverse region. Our programs draw in families with lovable characters and culturally-relevant themes and stories that promote healthy habits, gender equity, and academic readiness—crucial in a region where only about a third of children attend preschool. From our offices in India and Bangladesh, we’re devising new ways to deliver life-changing education to families who need it most.
Our “Dream, Save, Do” financial literacy program is making a difference in a region where many families live on less than two dollars a day. Segments in our Sisimpur program and characters like Chamki on India’s Galli Galli Sim Sim show children how to plan ahead for their wants and needs, supported by multi-media toolkits that encourage families to make choices that can bring their dreams closer to reality.
Sesame Workshop is giving young girls throughout the region access to quality early education and empowering them to dream big. Characters like Chamki in India, and Tuktuki in Bangladesh help girls envision a future full of possibility and inspire them to strive—while reinforcing the critical role of men and boys in embracing equal roles and responsibilities for girls and women.
To support children affected by the Rohingya refugee crisis, Sesame is partnering with BRAC to bring early education grounded in the power of play to hundreds of thousands of children in and around the massive refugee settlement at Cox’s Bazar. Made possible by a $100 million grant from the LEGO Foundation, this work will uplift displaced children—as well as those in host communities—with tools, laughter, and engaging activities to help children build the skills they need to overcome adversity and thrive.
In areas of the region where mass media doesn’t reach, Sesame Workshop is blazing new paths to teach children. In India, mobile carts bring our Galli Galli Sim Sim program to communities without access to TV.
In a pioneering tactic to promote literacy, Sesame Workshop India has developed adaptive learning tools for mobile phones. Equipped with these low-cost devices, families can evaluate their children’s reading skills and create individualized learning paths, giving young learners in the most remote communities a chance to reach their full potential.
